Commentary
Ensure there is a risk management
process in place to identify any changes (eg to legislation, organisation layout,
resources etc) & update plans accordingly.
When seeking to develop
recovery strategies, consideration should be given to the following methods
and
techniques as a minimum:
- End-to-End service/product
process mapping;
- BCP Solutions:
- Work Area Recovery;
- Staff / Resident / Client
Relocation;
- IT Disaster Recovery;
- Telecommunications Recovery;
- Ship-in-Services;
- Damage Assessment, Restoration
and Salvage;
- Security;
- Shared services;
- Specialist BCP resource
and/or service providers (intra and/or out-source providers);
- Business Impact Recovery
Analysis;
- Crisis Management;
- Benchmarking;
- Scenario Planning;
- Stakeholder Analysis;
- Cost Benefit Analysis;
- Current State Assessment
techniques (GAP analysis);
- SWOT Analysis (Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats).
Actions
- Assign a staff member
to be responsible for collection and dissemination of current and ongoing
information relating to emergency management, in order to keep the Emergency
Response Team / Planning Committee appraised of contemporary practice in the
area of emergency preparedness.
- Ensure that these key
responsibilities are reflected in job descriptions and evaluated through routine
staff performance appraisal systems.
- Incorporate these areas
into staff key performance indicator systems
- Ensure Evacuation Plan
process changes resulting from contemporary practice changes, are communicated
to key personnel (via training sessions etc).
